Father Aristide

Jean Bertrand Aristide or Father Aristide's was the president of Haiti twice from 1994 to 1996 then 2001 to 2004.Before he was president he was a Roman Catholic priest.
Aristide was born on July 15 1953 in Port –Salut. He was educated at Salesian schools in Porto –au-Prince and at College Norte Dame. He studies philosophy and psychology. After completing his master studies in 1979, he traveled in Europe studying in Italy and Israel .Aristide returned to Haiti in 1983 for ordination as a priest. First he was a priest and eventually he began a leader and take a nickname Titide or Titid .Aristide had sermons on the radio .In 1988 on the radio he said “the solution is revolution first in the spirit of the Gospel ,Jesus could not accept people going hungry .It is a conflict between classes ,rich and poor’’. For this he was expelled from been a Salesian priest. So in 1995 Aristide was no longer a priest and married Mildred Trouillot who was an American citizen. Aristide announced his application presidency and following a six week campaign, he was elected president with 67% of the vote and took office on February 7, 1991.
He resigned on September 30, 1991 after a non-confidence vote. The Superior court Justice Nerette was put in as President Provision to serve until elections were held in 90 days of Aristide’s resignation. The American Government delayed the elections. The real power was under the army commander Raoul Cedras.
Aristide spent his exile first In Venezuela and then in the United States .The United Nations made restrictions to Haiti while Aristide was in exile. The Americans sent troops to Haiti. On October 15 1994 Aristide returned to Haiti and continued his presidency obligations .He set up a police force.
Aristide’s first ended in February 1996 according to the constitution .Rene Preval ran for elections and took 88% of the vote.
Second presidency
In late 1996, Aristide left the political party O.P.L. and created a new political party called Fanmi Lavalas .The Famni Lavala party won the legislative election.
During the Haitian rebellion In 2004 there was an incursion and Aristide removed from Haiti.
Potential return
After Rene Preval was elected as president of Haiti he implied that Aristide might return to back but he did not exactly tell them when. Aristide was force to say to South African by American threats revealing that Aristide was involved with drugs. Later in 2004 very few countries recognized Aristide s as the president of Haiti. While Aristide’s was in South African received a doctorate in African Languages .On December 21, 2007 he gave a speech for Haiti’s Independence Day and he criticized the 2006 presidential election. He said that Prevel was a traitor and stated that “the knife of treason was planted” in the back of the Haitian people.
Some Lavalas members have been under attack for example Lovinsky Pierre –Antoine, a human rights organizer and a member of Lavalas disappeared in August 2007. Nobody knows where he is.
